Results
This is the first of 4 College League events designed
principally to encourage students to have a go at athletics. This can be confirmed by the number of new faces with only a few regulars present.
Some students may also be using the event as a means to get ready for the NZ Secondary Schools National Athletics Championship in Whanganui in early December.
The programme format for each meeting includes a mix of track of track and field events incorporating sprints, middle distance throws and jumps. The intention is to provide flexibility with the programme to offer those events each Friday that are most in demand.
For the first league the events were 100m, 400m, 1500m, Shot-Put and Long Jump. There was also a 4x100m Relay to finish off. Because this is an after-school event the meeting is short, about 90 minutes, give or take.
The lack of electronic timing made it difficult to manage the finish line results and this is unlikely to get better as the series continues.
