For those heading to the National Secondary Schools XC Champs in Dunedin on 20 June, the Trentham races will be a good test of how to handle the cold and rain which could be the likely weather conditions in the south.

With reasonable sized fields the races went off without a hitch. As you would expect the dominant runners have familiar faces and mostly members of local running clubs.  The best race of the day was the Senior Boys 6k race where James Preston and Tom Caughley (both Scots College) ran shoulder to shoulder for most of the race with the winner being decided in a sprint finish that started 200m out from the line.  In the end Preston's superior speed gave him the win but both should do well in Dunedin.
