2014 College League Meeting 3 Newtown Park Fri 21 Nov

Results

This is meeting 3 of the 4 meet series with one more Friday to go.  There seemed to be continuing good support from the schools especially St Pat’s Silverstream, Newlands College, Rongotai College and Wellington High School. I was a bit surprised by the low numbers from Scots and Wellington College given they generally are strong in athletics. Perhaps exams are having an impact at this time of the year.

I have put a lot more photos up this week mainly because the 100m hurdles was on the menu and you can guarantee that no two shots will be the same. Events on the programme this week were 100m Hurdles, Discus, Triple/Long Jump, 2000m, 400m and the 4x100m Relay.

Ben Twyman returned to the start line after a week's absence and went to the front straight away weaving his way between the mass of pedestrians and cyclist which is a feature of this unfriendly course. The head wind on the way back produced slow times overall although young Nikolai Allen (Trentham United) ran a personal best for 3rd place behind Twyman and Bert Prendergast. This could auger well for Allen in next month's National Secondary Schools Road Race in Whanganui where he has  a good chance of a top finish . Also fronting up for the first time since his return from his regular UK break was the amazing Michael Browne. .
