2014 Black Programme Newtown Park Sat 1 Nov

Results

It was a special day for the walkers at Newtown Park with Olympian Quentin Rew and Alana Barber in attendance.

Rew and Barber showed their class as elite race walkers eating up the track as they whizzed around the track in the 3000m with what appeared to be consummate ease. The race field was larger than normal with a number of starters trying out race walking for the first time.

As expected there were good fields in the middle distance races. The field in the 3000m/5000m field was especially large boosted mainly by college age athlete clearly looking ahead to the NZ Secondary Schools National Track & Field Champs in Wanganui on 6 December.

In the 100m Alex Jordan made his first appearance and provided good competition to Saravee Sos who has shown good early season form.

Michael Wray - starting your watch in an electronically timed race seems odd

  1. Remember that electronically timed race the season before last, a 1500m or 3000m, where it failed and Alan was having to ask people who'd started their watches their times for the results! We then used race photos to give estimates for those without watches.
