This weekend will see a lot of activity in Wellington with both Homegrown and the Newtown Festival expected to pull in the crowds. For athletics fans the big weekend of the year brings the National Track and Field Champs back to Newtown Park with the expected thrills and spills. Expect to see some outstanding performances. Star attractions include Nick Willis, The Robertson twins, Mike Powell (USA High Jump star), Tom Walsh and Jacko Gill and of course all of the Southland team lead by super-coach Lance Smith. Details of the meeting and key statistics are detailed below the photos.

Up at the track Jake and Zane Robertson led about 45 keen athletes, young and old, through a warm-up and drills session followed by a Q&A and some signings. The Robertson story is one of the most intriguing tales of NZ sport, and I would imagine that some day you can expect a book and possibly a movie.
