Will's Niggles
Will Bonnor's Win and PB
In the women’s grade Anthea Morrison ran a PB of 20.22 to pick up tonight’s winner’s title. Interestingly she first ran the 5km race in December 2006 and has progressively brought her race times down since then. There is nothing like persistence.
In second place was newcomer Christina Totina who stopped Daryl’s clock (is such a thing possible?) at 20.34.
Third was Caroline Mellsop from hilly Brooklyn who recorded a massive PB of 20.48.
It was Matt Bonner’s night as he scored his first win in
this event. His time of 17.01 is a season’s best for him and his second fastest on the
waterfront.
Matt was chased hard by a determined Tim Judge and for a second
there it looked like it was all on. Tim recorded 17.03 which is a PB by 5 seconds.
And wouldn’t you know it – there was Will Critchlow of Will Critchlow fame in 3rd
place grinning like a Cheshire Cat (or was that a grimace). His time of 17.07
was a massive PB although he told me before that race that he had a few niggles
and was not expecting a good performance. It just goes to show that when you
wear the right T-Shirt anything can happen
In the Critchlow/Thompson stakes, Will (3rd) ran
a beauty to even the score with Brendon (6th). Brendon indicated later
that it was not a good day for him. But there is always another day and another
race.
