On the one hand there is plenty of athlete support for what should be a big event but on the other there isn't the same amount of interest when compared to yesteryear. But I don't want to get started on this so will shut up.

I was delighted to see Shaka Sola on the end of a microphone and inside the fence. This man is a breath of fresh air when it comes to compering. Knows his stuff and can deliver the facts as well as the extra bits with flare and humour. I hope Athletics Wellington keep using him.

Highlights for me were seeing Tina Faulkner (Tina Harris) back in action dominating the women's 1500m. And wow she looked like poetry in motion on the last lap. Nicole Mitchell was also in the race.

Watching 52yo Allessandro Pina smash the NZ Masters record for 60m in his age group.

Also watching Billy Crayford hit the high jump is always good value. A multiple NZ HJ champ who makes it look easy and on a good day can exceed expectations.

And is Naim MacDonald fit or not? Lucas Duros says he is and I can now believe that when he ran a clever race to pick off #MadHarry in the 3000m steeplechase after tracking him like a spider does to a fly.  Harry on the other hand is focused on the National Mountain Running Champs in Cardrona in March and they don't have steeple hurdles and water-jumps in that.
