James Turner on pacer duties |
Conditions for good times couldn’t have been better this
week. A blue sky and a light cooling
southerly meant that good times were on the cards.
Once again a clutch of Trentham United junior
runners turned up and my guess is that they will be using this race to prepare
for the Secondary Schools Track and Field Champs to be held in Hastings in a
couple of weeks.
Natalie Hardaker won the women’s race in a time of 19.11, a
PB for her. In 2nd place but some
way back was Hinano Andrews who crossed the finish line in 20.03. 3rd
was Mel MacPhee in 20.22 which is 3 seconds quicker than her first run on this
course in October.
In the men’s race Ben Twyman took advantage of the good
conditions to pull out a PB of 16.00 to win. A sub-16 can’t be far away. Back in 2nd place was Finn Malloy
who ran 16.22 with the reliable Michael du Toit in 3rd in 16.47.
In the Will Critchlow/Brendon Thompson challenge Brendon
stays ahead by 1 after Will did not show last week.
This week though the
contest was postponed because Brendon was out with the pram and that does not make
the race fair unless of course Will pushes one as well. And then it's all on.
But
even after doing his impressive jiggly warm-up dance Will only managed 17.41.
This is slower than some of his other races this season, so he may need a
talking to.
