The Men's Mile from 2005. Can you identify them all? |
The best race of the day was the men’s mile. With the late
withdrawal of Hamish Carson as the race favourite the outcome was wide open. As
it turned out the battle was between the Dougal Thorburn (Scottish) and Ryan
McAlister both putting on a determined display to the delight of the few
spectators who decided to stick around to the end of the programme. McAlister ultimately triumphed for a well-deserved
win.
It’s a pity that the main races on the programme (Men and
Women’s mile) are held so late in the programme and there is a case for
starting the meeting earlier and putting the two blue ribbon races in the
middle of the programme rather than at the end. Dom Post Preview
