Dominion Post Race Report

Cantabrian, Oska Inkster-Baynes 1st male in the Half Marathon 68.26
You could be forgiven for anticipating the weather today would be crap the day after the Highlanders soundly caned the Hurricanes at Westpac Stadium. But no it was a great day with plenty of sunshine and relatively calm.  Dan Clendon (who knows a thing or two about this event) thought conditions were the best they have ever been.

I tried to find a preview of the race just to confirm my own quick check of the entry list to identify favourites, but all I could find was a story about some people who would compete in the marathon dressed as a horse.  Gosh, I hope they made it to the finish because I wasn’t hanging around to see if they did.

Because Wellington Scottish have omitted to do so this is a shout-out to Robert Prendergast who was the first Scottish member home in the full marathon clocking 2.47.58 (PB) to pick up 7th place (and as I figure it the silver medal in the Wellington Marathon Championship).

Training partner and Scottish member Ben Twyman ran a leisurely 3.15.15 for 36th place - basically having a rest after the Christchurch marathon last month where he ran. 2.44.44 for 12th.

And dare I mention Jason Waite and his 2.57.25.....

In the 5k race another Scottish member Donal Hanratty was first across the line in 17.58.
