Gosh what a day. First track star and Olympian Nikki Hamblin turns up in her Cambridge uniform to battle it out Kara MacDermid, representing Palmerston North to take out the Senior Women's.6km race.
Then Evan Cooper in his first outing this season squashes the field in the Senior Men's 8km race. Cooper, who has take over from the late Graham Tattersall to mentor and coach the formidable WHAC Junior Men's squad, ran in Scottish colours which might have surprised some people but not me.
And then there was Dr Doogie Thorburn's unfortunate mishap at the creek crossing on the final lap when he buggered his leg (a knee I think). In obvious pain he continued on to the finish to pick up 3rd place behind Tim Hodge.
I missed the kids races because I was at the creek hunkered down in my mini and did not want to move.
An examination of the results reveals a couple of interesting things:
The Dorne is popular with clubs from other regions
Scottish has few kids, but other clubs are flush with them
In the Senior Men's race Trentham United came 3rd in the teams count
In the Senior Men's race Scottish had 10 runners finishing within a minute
The photos below do not include any from lap 2 of the Senior Men's race
