Persistent rain in the days before the relay meant that no part of the marked playing fields could be used. So most of the course around the park was run on either the limestone or paved sections which would have made it difficult for those wearing spikes. The wet underfoot conditions would have made navigating the steep slope on the Southern side of the course challenging especially for those without spikes. There was a hint of drizzle during the actual relay but an hour after the finish the skies really opened up.
Winning the senior grades, boys and girls, were Scots College and Wellington East Girls College. In the Under 16 grades the winning teams were Wellington College and Marsden Collegiate School while the Year 9 grades the winners were Wellington College and Wellington Girls College. In total there were 433 competitors who will now be looking toward the National Secondary Schools Cross Country Champs in June.
